UNC Swimmers Dominate Morning Session At Gamecock Invitational

The University of North Carolina men’s and women’s swimming teams placed 19 swimmers into Friday night finals at the 2008 Gamecock Invitational at the Carolina Natatorium in Columbia, S.C. Altogether, 31 UNC women’s swimmers and 30 Carolina men’s swimmers qualified to swim in tonight’s superfinals, championship finals and consolation finals.

Carolina Set To Battle Hurricanes And Seminoles

The North Carolina volleyball team holds a one match lead in the race for the ACC Championship with three matches remaining in the season, including Thursday night’s showdown with second place Miami (24-5, 12-5 ACC) at 7 p.m. in the Dean E. Smith Center. The Tar Heels (19-9, 13-4 ACC) enter the weekend on an eight-match winning streak dating back to a 3-1 setback in Miami on Oct. 18, while Miami enters by winning seven of their last 10 matches. Carolina will close out the weekend by hosting Florida State (19-8, 11-6 ACC) at 7 p.m. Friday night where the four Tar Heel seniors will be honored before one of their final matches in Carolina blue.

Ten games into the 2008 football season, the Tar Heels have posted a 7-3 record, have had a solid shot at landing a spot in the ACC championship game (and still retain a slim one), have made noticeable improvement in most every position over a year ago and appear on track to having an outstanding recruiting class. And they are better in week 11 than they were in week two, which is the bottom line goal of any sporting season.

Carolina Wins Showdown Against Miami

The North Carolina volleyball team moved one step closer to the ACC Championship Thursday night in Chapel Hill as the Tar Heels claimed a 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 25-21, 25-16) win over second place Miami (24-6, 12-6 ACC) to pull within one win of their first ACC title since 2005. Suzanne Haydel and Ingrid Hanson-Tuntland tallied 15 kills apiece in leading Carolina (20-9, 14-4 ACC) to its first 20-win season since 2005. The Tar Heels will look to claim a share of the ACC title on Friday when they host Florida State on senior night.

Tyler Harris Shatters School Record In 200-Yard Individual Medley

Softball Signs Six For 2010, Adds One For 2009

The University of North Carolina softball program has announced the signing of six student-athletes to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period head coach Donna J. Papa announced Wednesday. The six newest Tar Heels will enter school in the fall of 2009 and will begin their college softball careers on the diamond in 2010, while the 2009 Tar Heels will also welcome a newcomer as Ally Blake will be joining Carolina at the beginning of the new semester in January.
